Child and family services provider, Berry Street, and Victorian disability service provider, Yooralla, have announced that their proposed merger is complete and they look forward to working together to deliver greater impact and expanded services to their communities over time.

The organisation this week has announced a new Board of Directors, chaired by Dr Joanna Flynn AM.

The priority for the merged organisation is to ensure that existing services for both Berry Street and Yooralla clients, service users and participants continue without disruption, said Dr Flynn. Each organisation will retain their brands and will continue direct engagement with their respective funders, donors, supporters and volunteers.

The decision to merge is a historic coming together of two of Victoria’s longest-serving, experienced and most respected providers of social services and was made after extensive due diligence, on the basis of future benefits to service users and clients of both organisations.

The CEO of the newly merged organisation will be Terry Symonds, the current CEO of Yooralla, an experienced executive leader with expertise across health services, disability, and government.

We look forward to bringing the expertise in our highly skilled workforces together to develop innovative services for people with disability and those experiencing trauma, violence and abuse, said Mr Symonds. The best ways to support people with disability and those impacted by violence and abuse require new ways of thinking about the future. By merging our organisations, we can better meet the current and emerging needs of our communities and continue doing so for another hundred years.

Interim CEO of Berry Street, Jenny McNaughton, will take on the role of Deputy CEO of the merged organisation. Jenny

McNaughton said:

This is an exciting opportunity for Berry Street and Yooralla to continue to improve outcomes for children, families and those with a disability, and we look forward to developing enhanced services to benefit our service users, clients and the wider community.
