Supporting Past Care Leavers

Open Place is a support and advocacy service that assists people who grew up in Victorian orphanages and homes during the last century. We aim to help people who identify as Forgotten Australians to deal with the legacy of their childhood experiences and provide support to improve their health and wellbeing.

Berry Street preserves and holds client records for all of our past services.  The Heritage Service assists past clients (including Sutherland Homes and Lisa Lodge) to access their personal information and records held by Berry Street. This confidential service is provided to former residents and their families free of charge.

Since 1877 many thousands of children and young people have been assisted by Berry Street and our founding agencies. Berry Street is committed to ensuring that all former clients are able to raise issues and concerns and make formal complaints in relation to any abuse or neglect they may have experienced while in our care.
