Evaluation of the Berry Street Stand by Me Program

Report by Jade Purtell, Susan Baidawi

Berry Street piloted the Stand by Me program in northern metropolitan Melbourne for 3 years (2013 – 2015). The program provided intensive, holistic and flexible support to young people who were transitioning from out-of-home care and were presenting with multiple and complex needs.

The approach was based on the UK Personal Advisor model and the evaluation demonstrated that the UK model could be adapted to the Victorian context. The evaluation also found that the support provided by the program was promising in improving outcomes for young care leavers.
