This newly re-developed workshop, that is being delivered worldwide, is not about your understanding of attachment and trauma but will focus on how we, as practitioners, can work with our children and young people to make help them make sense of their world through developing their understanding of the impacts of attachment and trauma.

Overview

This training day will have at its core, communicating with children and young people around complex issues that impact on their every day.

Using attachment, trauma and recovery as subtitles for the day – attendees will explore

  • how attachment theory can be explained to children and young people;
  • how children and young people can understand the impact of trauma, its definitions and how it can make sense when we talk of monsters and ghosts; and
  • how, with imagination and play, we can support children and young people engage in their own recovery as they learn that the past does not need to define them.

Drawing on child development and attachment theory the course will use a detailed case study, and guide attendees through a clear and useable framework to enhance skills and confidence in this key area of social work and practice.
