Spotlight on Diana: Transforming lives through leaving a gift in your Will

Meet Diana. Diana is our Major Gifts Manager in the Philanthropy team at Berry Street. She manages relationships with some of our generous supporters, as well as our Gifts in Wills program. Having worked for many years as a Case Manager with children and young people in out-of-home care, Diana has seen firsthand how Berry Street’s supporters can change young lives for the better.

Q. How long have you worked at Berry Street?

A. I’ve worked at Berry Street for 10 years: eight years in the kinship team in Gippsland as a Case Manager for children who were placed in out-of-home care with family, and two years in the Philanthropy team.

Q. Why do you love working for Berry Street?

A. As a Case Manager, I loved working with the young people and children in Berry Street’s care. I was inspired by their resilience, as many had experienced abuse, neglect and trauma. Many of the children I worked with didn’t get the same opportunities as their peers - it’s the reason I still work for Berry Street.

Now in Berry Street’s Philanthropy team, I love working with the wonderful and generous people who want to help the children. As a Berry Street supporter or donor, you can change lives and I’ve seen it happen for the kids I worked with.

It’s a very rewarding job and Berry Street’s a great organisation to work for.

Q. What is a gift in Will?

A. A gift in Will (or bequest) is when someone chooses to leave a charitable donation to an organisation of their choice in their Will. By leaving a gift in your Will to Berry Street, you’ll be helping vulnerable children, young people and families- you can really change a life.

Q. What would leaving a gift in my Will to Berry Street help fund?

A. We work closely with our bequestors to determine what type of legacy they want to leave. Depending on the size of the gift, typically we direct it to where it’s most needed. It can absolutely have an impact on children’s lives by supporting our trauma-informed programs and services. Leaving a gift in your Will is one of the most beautiful things that you could do.
