Intensive Case Management Service (ICMS) provides intensive, long-term support to young people with complex needs.
ICMS often works:
- in areas of high socioeconomic disadvantage
- with intergenerational cycles of poverty, violence and significant trauma.
How it works
Young people often enter ICMS in a state of crisis. Case managers use a range of skills to build a relationship with, advocate for and provide the right support for the young person.
This might involve:
- helping the young person develop and maintain positive relationships
- helping in interactions with the justice system
- engaging with legal services
- supporting the young person to understand and navigate other systems and processes.
Outcomes
ICMS seeks to empower young people away from their trauma, towards a sense of safety and a feeling of support.
It aims to help young people:
- reduce high risk behaviour
- increase stability in their life
- develop resilience and protective behaviours
- build self-esteem and life skills
- develop meaningful relationships.
